Do ensure you know how to shut the generator off quickly in case of an emergency - all TPS generators are fitted with an emergency stop button to make this easy
 
Do periodically turn on your standby generator to make sure it starts and runs properly
 
Do make sure the generator is mounted on a secure level surface
 
Do operate the generator where there is plenty of circulation to ensure that fumes can escape and air can get in to help cool the components

Don'ts
 
Don't ever modify your generator set in any way
 
Don't ever refuel your generator when it is running or if it is still hot
